Charles William Meaney

Charles William Meaney, of Philadelphia, passed away on June 8th, 2023 at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Ann (nee Stade); devoted father of Carol Ann Buvel (Joseph Gerard), Nancy Ruth McKeown (James Adam, Jr.) and Christine Elizabeth Bader (Daniel Sylvester, V); loving grandfather of Joseph, Melissa, Daniel, Jimmy, Lindsay, Laura, Amanda, Karlen, Nolan; and loving great grandfather of Jackson, Bradyn, Olivia, Daniel, Claire, Walter, Grayson, Amelia, and Charlotte. Charles is predeceased by his parents George Francis and Ruth Esther Meaney, and his sister Jeannette Alice Gore.
Charles was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, and was a graduate of Bartram High School where he was a leader in all sports activities, especially the gym team. He proudly served our country during the Korean War as an Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class in the United States Navy, earning the Air Medal. Charles continued his life of service joining the Philadelphia Police Department. Of note, he served as a member of the Police Mounted Unit, Highway Patrol, Highway Patrol (Motorcycle) Drill Team, and ultimately rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Sherwood United Presbyterian Church, and the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd. Charles loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Philadelphia Canoe Club and he enjoyed spending time kayaking, canoeing, bow hunting, and fly fishing. He was also an avid reader.
Family and friends are invited to Charles Life Celebration on Wednesday, July 5th from 9 – 10:30AM at the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, 10901 Calera Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154. A funeral service will follow at 10:30AM. Interment services will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery beginning at 1:00PM.
