Charles Borromeo Mulhern Jr. MD

CHARLES BORROMEO MULHERN, Jr. MD, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025 following a tenacious battle with myasthenia gravis. He was 79 years old. Beloved husband of Salmi Simmons Mulhern MD (nee Malik). Devoted father of Thomas, Robert (Celeste), Kristopher (Kathleen), Kevin and Melissa. Loving grandfather of Mylea, Maren, Esther, Willie, Gracie and George. Dear brother of the late Mary (the late David) Hart. Also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Dear uncle of Jonathan (Roisin) Hart, Jennifer (Grant) Conway and Brian (Shana) Hart.
Dr. Mulhern's pursuit of knowledge led him to a bachelor of arts degree from Saint Joseph's University and his doctor of medicine degree from Temple University. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Charles was devoted to his hometown, serving the community for 54 years as a diagnostic radiologist with appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple University, Hahnemann University Hospital and Einstein Hospital.
Charles was a physician par excellence. His career left an indelible impression on his colleagues, residents and patients. He loved teaching, employing the most inimitable entertaining style. He helped forge the careers of innumerable young physicians, teaching them not only to excel professionally but inspiring them to be empathetic human beings. He touched the lives of so many with his intellectual merit, kindness and humor.
Charles was a water baby and he loved the Jersey shore spending much time on the beach in Stone Harbor. He looked forward every summer to teeing off at the shore with his golf buddies. He enjoyed traveling with Salmi and marveling at the wonders of the world. His generous and affable spirit was infectious. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass Saturday morning, June 14th, 10:00 A.M. at Old St. Joseph's Church, 321 Willings Alley, Philadelphia, PA 19106
His Inurnment will follow to Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
