Charles Douglas Munk (1965-2025)
Charles D. Munk, 60, of Iron Mountain, MI, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Chuck was born in Stevensville, MT, on August 4, 1965, to John and Molly Munk. Growing up, he had a love for music and football. He attended Stevensville High School, then went on to play football and graduate from Montana Tech with a degree in Business Administration. Chuck continued to further his education by getting his MBA at the University of Phoenix.
Chuck spent the majority of his career in banking as a bank president and commercial lending officer prior to several key positions at Lakeshore/Trident. He had a passion for HR work and worked as an instructor for SNHU online. It has been stated that he had a positive influence on over 350 students in his short 2-year tenure. As a retirement job, he had planned to start a HR consulting firm with his wife.
Chuck's passion was to give back to the communities where he lived in Alaska, Montana, and Michigan. He volunteered and served on various boards throughout his life in hopes of making the world a better place. A few roles and boards he volunteered for include firefighting, school board, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, and United Way, to name a few. He also served on the boards of the Chippewa Club and the Pine Grove Country Club.
Chuck leaves behind his wife, Kellie Secrist-Sexton, whom he married on September 10, 2022, and together they built a life filled with love and adventures. He was a proud father to Ashley Munk (Connor) of Wasilla, AK, Kyle Sexton (Becca) of Marquette, MI, Shawn Sexton of Philadelphia, PA, Brittany Aspelund (Zack) of Rosemount, MN, and Olivia Sexton (Jacob) of Kingsford, MI. He was a blessed grandfather to Kinnley, Kora, Zeke, and Lexi, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He will also be missed by his parents, John and Molly Munk of Stevensville, MT; his sister, Cindy Hogberg (Hal) of Spokane, WA; his in-laws, Bruce and Marlene Secrist of Niagara, WI, Natalie McCauley (Tim) of Kingsford, MI, and Brett Secrist (Nel) of Powers, MI; his fur babies, Yeti and Sammy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and more friends than anyone could keep track of. He always cherished the time he spent fishing, golfing, camping, hosting parties, and solving all the world's problems on the patio with his friends.
Chuck is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Anna Woodham, and Charles (June) Munk and Mary Munk; and his two fur babies, Rocko and Lucy.
Donations may be made in Chuck's memory to either the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet or the Almost Home Animal Shelter.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with a funeral service to follow at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. A family burial service will be held at the Iron Mountain Cemetery.
