Charles Herbert Murray closed his eyes for the last time on March 29, 2025, in Milton, Delaware, surrounded by his loved ones.
Charles was born on September 29, 1934, in Ridgley, Maryland to the late Raymond and Mildred Murray. Charles was one of eight children. He was educated in the Caroline County School System, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Mildred (not to be confused with his mother). Getting married at the ripe old age of 21, Charles and Mildred went on to have six children and shared 65 years of marriage. Over time he would go by many names; Dad, Pop-pop, Elder Murray, but the one most of us know him by is Bud.
Charles left school to get a job working on a farm with his father. He went on to work at Swift and Company in Felton, Delaware, then to Perdue. Charles even worked his way up to crew manager. All and all, he had about 47 years working in the poultry industry before he retired. Some of his hobbies were hunting, working on cars (he taught most of you how to fix yours), and basking in his family's love.
Charles was a quiet, meek, humble man with a strong spirit who loved his family and his church. He was known to give you the hard truth but followed it up with a genuine embrace. Just don't get him shaking his head at you. Charles' greatest ambition was to see his family and friends' hearts given over to the Lord. He thought about this up until the end. Over the years Charles led many of his family and friends to Christ. He was a devoted elder of the church until his passing.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Murray, his parents, Raymond and Mildred Murray; one brother, Frederick Murray; four sisters, Anna Chester, Gladys Wheeler, Sarah Jason, and Geraldine Concepcion; his sons, Darrell L. Seth and Dwayne P. Murray, Sr. (Stephanie).
Left to treasure his memory are his two sisters, Gloria Parker, and Catherine Warner; five daughters, Charlene Murray, Tonnette Norwood, Luchelle Stevens (Freddie), Jana Williams all of Delaware and Febra Purnell of Prince Anne, Maryland; one honorary son, Terrence Nichols (Denise); grandchildren, Dwayne Murray, Jr., LaDonna Murray, Nicholas Murray, Jermaine Willis, Krishawna Hynes, Von Jarmon, La'Kisha Jarmon, Shamika Glover, James David Sydnor (Maia), Lumekka Sydnor, Tylar Williams, Karl Murray, Iona Caldwell, and Freddie Willis; 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; goddaughter, Yvette Chester; godson, Luke Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
