Charles "Buck" Nabors entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2023. He was 88.
He was born in Pickens, SC to Alice Marie Nabors (Jones) and Hamilton Lee Nabors on February 17, 1935. His parents relocated to Jackson Mill in Wellford SC when he was a young boy. Prior to enlisting into the United States Air Force, he worked for Jackson Mill Cotton Mill in Wellford, SC and served two years in the Air National Guard. He married his wife, Catherine Crystal Ferdon on October 31, 1959, in Sacramento, CA. He served in the Vietnam War and retired at Charleston Air Force Base after 23 years as a Tech Sergeant (E-6). After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to work for the 315th Military Pay Department handling the military payroll on Charleston Air Force Base.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and an avid Carolina Gamecock fan. He was a long-standing member of Riverbend Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC where he served in a variety of roles that included Deacon, Sunday School Director, teacher, and loved singing in the choir where he was often a soloist. Buck's devotion to the Lord was unparalleled as he answered every phone call with "Jesus loves you, hello." His faith was a monumental pillar in his character and to be near him was to also know the Lord. Everyone that knew Buck would say he never met a stranger or missed an opportunity to witness. He often would ask, "Has anyone told you today that God loves you and Jesus died for you?" Two of his favorite Bible verses were 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 and 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Willie Mae "Billie" Alford, Midge High, and Eunice Nabors.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; 5 children David (Audrey) Nabors of Greer, SC, Danny (Susan) Nabors of West Columbia, SC, Donna (Johnny) Barnes of College Station, Texas, Dorothy "Midge" Nabors of Greer, SC, and Dwayne (Sarah) Nabors of Columbia, SC; 13 grandchildren David (Dan Carr) Nabors, Jr., Corie (Emery) Patton, Krystal (H.D.
