Services for Charles Asher Newell, 74, of Ratliff City, are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Ratliff City Cemetery Pavilion, with Micah Newell and Carl Lomenick officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ratliff City.
Charles was born June 10, 1951, at San Luis Obispo, California, to the late Mr. Claude Aaron Newell and Mrs. Ellen Levina (Goins) Newell. He went to his heavenly home Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his home in Ratliff City.
Charles led a life deeply rooted in his love for family, faith, and community. Raised in California, he journeyed through various landscapes, from coast to valley, always connected to agriculture, primarily residing in Farmersville. A proud graduate of Exeter Union High School, Charles embarked on a career as an Auto Technician, dedicating his skills and passion for mechanics to help others. On November 19, 1971, he married the former Ms. Kathey Gay Cottman, in Farmersville, California. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with love, faith, and the joy of companionship. Charles’s commitment to his faith led him and Kathey to move initially to Exeter and later to Farmersville, before following a pastoral calling to Iowa. Their journey continued as they returned to Farmersville, where Charles took on the role of pastor, leading various communities and churches until his retirement in 1994. He then moved to Ratliff City, where he embraced the community as his own for the rest of his days. Throughout his time in Ratliff City, Charles served as a pastor at the Midway Freewill Baptist Church, Countyline Freewill Baptist Church, and Countryside Freewill Baptist Church in Velma. Eventually, he found a new spiritual home at Crosspoint Fellowship Church of Healdton, where he attended with his beloved family. Charles was not only a dedicated pastor, but he also cherished life's simple pleasures. His love for working on cars, taking road trips, music, and playing the guitar brought him immense joy, reflecting a well-rounded man who embraced life to its fullest. His legacy of faith, service, and love will be remembered by all who knew him, leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on his community and those fortunate enough to call him a friend.
