Charles Oliver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, Inc. - Colchester on Feb. 3, 2026.
Charles D. Oliver, Sr., fondly known as Charlie, of Hebron, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation where he had been residing. He was 90 years old. Charlie was born in New London on September 29, 1935. He was the son of the late Anthony and Stella (Denison) Oliver. He married Catherine Ellis in 1956. She predeceased him and Charlie later wed Joan Skut, who also predeceased him in 2009. Charlie retired several years ago after a long career as a master carpenter with his special talents creating beautiful cabinetry.

He was a resident of Hebron for 60 years and was a member of the Hebron Sportsman's Club since the early 60s and loved fishing in both fresh water and ocean. Charlie loved fishing, hunting and camping in Pulaski, NY where the fishing trips were memorable. He was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker and a gentleman farmer most of his life at the "SueSisCinChuck" farmstand. Everyone knew they could find him in his beloved workshop. In the 1970s, he built the Corn Shed in Hebron. Charlie owned and operated the store which sold fruits and vegetables also where he formed many long, lasting friendships. During that same time (70s) he could be heard on the CB radios chatting regularly with some wonderful friends, his handle was "Woodchopper."

Charlie will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by all who know him, especially his children and their spouses, Chuck (Yvonne) Oliver, Jr., of Hebron, Sue Oliver (Earle Fredericksen) of Bolton, Catherine (Glenwood B.) Campen of Andover, Cindy Lukaszewicz (Everett Reaviel) of Willington; siblings, Paul Oliver of Amston, Mary Oliver, Judy Westcott of Moodus, Margaret Arnold of Amston; 5 grandchildren, Stanley, Michael, Tyler, Cody, Benjamin; 4 great grandchildren, Calvin, Milena, Colsen, and Aaliyah; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and spouses, he was predeceased by grandsons, Shawn and Garrett; a brother, Anthony Oliver; and his dog "Oliver". The family would like to thank the staff of Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehab for the care and kindness given while Charlie resided with them.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, at a later date. Burial will be private. For online condolences or to share a story with the family, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com

My condolences to the Oliver family on the passing of their father.Charlie was a great friend and neighbor that will be sorely missed.I first met Charlie 26 years ago when we moved to Hebron. We became friends over our mutual interests of woodworking, gardening and fishing. He was an amazing woodworker and I enjoyed all knowledge he shared while working in his famous shop.
