Charles E. Parris, 89, of Indianapolis passed away on November 20, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Gelliah Hargis in 1963, and they shared a loving marriage creating beautiful memories for 60 years until her passing in 2023.
Charles was known for his devotion to family, work ethic, generosity, kind heart, and wicked sense of humor that grew in his later years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was an avid fan of the Indiana Pacers, and Indianapolis Colts, local stock car races and the Indiana State Fair. He enjoyed time with family and always made time for his children, grandchildren and great-children. He spent his last 30 years of employment with Ford Motor Company working as a production plater, retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his children, Virginia Allmond, Charles Parris Jr., Mary Beatty (Ken), Donna Vawter (John), Terry Jackson (Kelly), John Parris (Lisa), Louise Parris (Billy Marratta), 16 grandchildren, a multitude of great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gelliah; his parents, Everett and Virginia Parris; grandchildren, Krista Dardy (Allmond), and Josh Powell and great-grandchild, Savannah Vawter.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, IN, 46229, from 12PM-2PM. A funeral service will begin, following the visitation at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, in his memory.
