Charlie was born to the late Mary (Sims) and Charles E. Portman in Louisville, KY. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Bunzl as a truck driver. He was a member of FOP Deputy Sherrif's Lodge #25, and Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Blandford) Portman; brothers James and Bernard, and sisters, Jeri, Mary, Wanda, and LaVerne.
Charlie is survived by his children, Susan E. Portman and Charlie Portman (Candace), and grandson, Chase Portman.
His funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 6901 Dixie Highway, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mass of the Air.
