Harold Allen Dotson, known as "Allen" of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025 one day shy of his 74th birthday, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 31, 1951 in Welch, West Virginia, Allen was the beloved son of the late James and Maxine Dotson. He was the devoted brother to Thomas, Joel and Leta (Kowal) and uncle to Edward and Anna Kowal, Lindsay Hedden, Tomi Myers, and great uncle to Bailey Wampler, Saber Hedden, and Owen Kowal.
Allen's life was marked by kindness, loyalty and an enduring zest for living. He attended Marshall University and was a proud brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He built a long career managing salons and in-store spas for Mercantile Department stores and Dillard's throughout the South winning numerous awards and honors. His professionalism and warmth earned admiration from colleagues and clients alike.
One of the greatest joys of Allen's life was serving as godfather to Eva Morgan, granddaughter of Allen's lifelong friends Marcia and David Morgan. From the time she was six weeks old until his passing, Allen lovingly nurtured and cherished her, forming a bond that became one of the defining blessings of his life. The love Allen had for Eva, and Eva had for her "Pokey" was evident to all and became a guiding light and loving presence in her life.
Allen was known for his gracious spirit, and deep compassion. A devoted supporter of LGBTQ+ causes, he lived his life with kindness and authenticity, touching everyone he met. His love of travel and exploring spirituality reflected his curiosity and appreciation for the world around him.
He is survived by his siblings, nieces, nephew and great nieces and nephew, numerous cousins as well as a large circle of lifelong friends including Rhonda Huddleston, Vicki and Kathy Shannon, Barbara Curry, Ellen Hesen, Margie Roberts and many others – all of whom carry his memory in their hearts.
A prayer service will be held on November 10 at 1400 Willow in Louisville. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 4:00pm., with a service at 4:00 conducted by Father John Burke. A reception will follow as friends and family gather to celebrate a life beautifully lived. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Dare to Care Food Bank or a food bank of your choice.
