Obituary of Charles Ramos
Charles Ramos of Chapel Hill, North Carolina passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024 at the age of 84. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend.
Charles was born in Manhattan, New York on March 17, 1940 to Carlos Ramos Martinez from Spain and Aurea Ramos Cales from Puerto Rico. He went to school in New York City and served in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC).
After his military service, an overseas assignment for a global North Carolina company led to a successful career in international sales primarily in the wines & spirits industry. After he retired, he continued mentoring others.
He lived in Chappaqua, NY for 34 years before moving to Chapel Hill in 2012 where he enjoyed playing pickleball and canasta, walking, reading, and staying connected with friends. He served on the Chatham County, NC Board of Elections for five years. He was a conservative who believed in hard work, family, faith, and country.
Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years Nilda Cortes Ramos, his sister Mary Robbie and husband Michael, his daughter Stephanie Ramos, grandson Thaddeus, sister-in-law Lillian Kirshner and husband Mark, nieces Lisa and Sara Kirshner, and other family members and friends.
The funeral mass will be held at the St. John Fisher Chapel on the St. Thomas More Church South Campus in Chapel Hill, NC at 2:30 p.m. on August 16. After the service, the family will receive guests in the chapel parlor.
On another date, the family will attend the Rite of Committal at the Columbarium at St. Thomas More Church.
