Charles Thomas "Tom" Rannells Jr., passed away on October 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on October 5, 1944, in New Albany, Indiana, Tom's life was characterized by his unwavering support for his family and friends, as well as his staunch political beliefs.
Tom is survived by his loving companion and caretaker, Mary Hines; his siblings, Karen Bannon (William), Jerry Rannells, Patricia Smiley (Eddie) and Kay Smith (David); his children, Gregg Seidl (Corrine), Kelly Campbell, Lisa Grider (David Kahl), Scott Hines (Beth), and Kenny Hines (Renee). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amelia Seidl, Zak Seidl (Leslie), Alisha Long (Eric), Ashlee Nance (Andrew), Victoria Kahl (Mitchell), Kyle Grider (Meagan), Dylan Grider (Anna), Kaleb Hines, Amy Hines, Ava Hines, Cole Hines, Callahan Hines, Dylan Williams, Jagger Williams, and Marley Williams. Tom also cherished his many great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Tom was known for his generous spirit; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and he had a remarkable ability to fix anything that was broken. He showed unwavering support for the Republican Party and made it a point to attend all of his family's sporting events and games, encouraging his loved ones from the sidelines. Among Tom's fondest memories were the peaceful hours spent fishing at Patoka Lake and the joy he found in gathering with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Rannells Sr. and Wanda (Fouts) Marshall; son-in-law, Martin Grider; and grandson, Joshua Grider.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions in Tom's memory can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation (1702 East Highland Ave., Suite 400 Phoenix, AZ 85016) or the New Albany Animal Shelter (215 W Market Street, New Albany IN 47150).
