Charles Ernest Reece, 84, beloved husband of the late Betty Edna Reece, peacefully departed this earthly realm and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Born on August 19, 1939, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Henry Reece and Wilma Greene Reece.
A man of incredible achievements, Ernest pursued his education with great diligence, graduating from Parker High School and then earning a bachelor's degree from Furman University.
Ernest was a devout member of Berea First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School, lead the RAs, and served as a deacon for many years. He actively participated in the church's activities and was a dedicated member of the Gideons, spreading the message of faith and hope to those in need.
He was an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, given to leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service. He continued his commitment to scouting and served with the Baptist for Scouting. He cherished his involvement in the scouting community, where he mentored and inspired countless young men, empowering them to reach their full potential. He exemplified the values of hard work, compassion, and a deep devotion to faith. He wrote and published a trail devotional book to be used for Scouts. His contributions were invaluable, and his impact on their lives will be cherished forever.
One of his favorite pastimes was playing music with his friends and family. His passion for music was infectious and brought happiness to all.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Angela Scott (Mark); sons, Charlie Reece (Phyllis), and Nathan Reece; his cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Ben, Aaron, Caroline, Thomas (Rhian), Elias, and Alessandra.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Ellen Scott.
The visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Berea First Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea First Baptist Church Reaching Center, 529 Farrs Bridge Rd, Greenville, SC 29611.

Angie, Charlie and Nathan, I am so sorry to hear of Charles Ernest's passing. As cousins we were close growing up. Later as life happened and we had families of our own and our mothers grew old and passed away the connection grew weak. His mom and my mom Belle were sisters. Over the years I enjoyed his music with David. I knew his health was bad and should have stayed in touch with him more. I will not be able to attend visitation or service. I do not drive anymore and really have a hard time walking. But my prayers are with you.
