Charles Reid Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wood Mortuary, Inc. - Greer on Dec. 23, 2025.
Charles Paul Reid, Sr., 90, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2025.

A native of Greenville County, born January 13, 1935, to the late John Henry and Mary Etta Rodgers Reid, he was a graduate of Parker High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy. Later he served as a deputy for the Greenville County Sheriff's Department and finished his career with Greenville County School District. Charles was a member of Pelham First Baptist Church and Monaghan Lodge 251.

After retirement, Charles enjoyed spending time working in his yard and cutting his grass. He had a love for baseball and spent many years as an umpire and coach for the sport. He was also an avid golfer, and the course was his happy place. Charles was most proud of his job being "Papa Booty" to his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lois Maxine Reid; a son, Chuck Reid (Stacy) of Greer; a daughter, Tina Reid of Myrtle Beach; two grandsons, Justin Reid (Madison) of Taylors and Austin Reid of Greer; a great-granddaughter, Marley Reid of Taylors; and a special friend, Tina Groce of Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Mr. Reid was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Pelham First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Patrick Clark and Rev. Ray Hatcher. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Visitation will be held 1:00-1:45 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the church.

Pallbearers will be Matt Holcombe, Darrin Wood, Greg Mitchell, Tommy Ward, and Andy Dean. Pathfinders Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escorts.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff with Spartanburg Regional Hospice who provided compassionate and loving care during this difficult journey.

Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29303.
