CANTON — Charles (Charlie) William Robertson, 76, died peacefully the morning of Monday, October 16, 2023, at Silver Bluff Village, with one of his Pisgah Black Bears t-shirts on.

Charlie was born August 17, 1947, in Asheville, NC, to William Davis and Nettie Mae Robertson, who are deceased.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry, and a great nephew, Casper Kuehn.

Charlie lived his whole life in Canton, the town he loved dearly.  For many years, Charlie made regular rounds visiting friends and others while riding his bicycle.  Charlie was most proud of his designation as #1 Pisgah Fan.  He followed all the Pisgah teams, both boys and girls, and was filled with joy when they won.   He loved his friends and especially his family.  If anyone had time, he could talk for hours about his family members.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton.

Charlie is survived by his two sisters, Sandy Hudson and her husband, Jim, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Kathy Robertson, of Canton.  He is also survived by his nieces, Kris Hudson, Tracy Russell (Brian) of Canton; Josey Kuehn (Seth) of Sylva; and Shelley Grove and Jessica Robertson of Williamsport, Maryland.  He is also survived by six great nephews and nieces, Branden Reddin of Laramie, Wyoming; Colby Reddin of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Cassidy Russell of Charlotte, NC; Clayton Russell of Canton; Zane Grove, Kylie Grove and Kendall Grove of Williamsport, Maryland, and Clementine Kuehn of Sylva, NC; and one great-great nephew.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Canton, NC, on Saturday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. with the Revs. Court Green and Esta Jarrett officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11-12:30.  Cremation has taken place and a private family burial of Charlie alongside his parents, will be held immediately following the service at Locust Field Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Community Kitchen in Canton, NC.  You can visit their website at

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the wonderful workers at Silver Bluff Village who provided their excellent services and love to Charlie.  We will forever be grateful.
