James Henry Brown

James Henry Brown, 88, of Clyde, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Milburn Brown and Mildred Hill Brown.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, retiring after a distinguished career as an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor. He was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church and was known for his strong sense of service, dedication to his country, and commitment to helping others.

In his free time, James enjoyed collecting a variety of items and was supportive of many charitable organizations. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McElrath Brown, who passed away in 2006; his daughter, Lisa James; his sister, Mary Crowder; and his son-in-law, David Cheek.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Cheek of Clyde; his son-in-law, Terry James; his grandchildren, Ashley Smart (Wesley), Adam Cheek, Tasha Hincy (Jared) and Tyler James; as well as his two great-grandchildren Millie Smart, and Ellis Smart.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Beulah Baptist Church, with Rev. Barry Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from one hour prior from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery with military honors.
