He later joined the Army but during basic training was discharged for medical reasons. He had a long career in Retail Management Radio/Communication.
Charles was a great salesman with a deep, resonating voice. His impeccable sales skills earned him top producer with Kinney Shoes. That thundering voice made him very successful in radio/communications. One always knew it was "Saussy" when they heard him on the radio. He loved the Acadiana culture and would often start his day with "Good Morning Acadiana."
In his younger years he was a "sea scout" and enjoyed fishing throughout his life. Charles loved the Ice Gator Hockey team in the 90's. He frequently subbed for Alphonse, the team mascot, running about the sidelines and encouraging the crowd
Charles loved animals and was a registered breeder. He was often seen riding around town with his beloved “Rocko.” Charles was a member of Monsignor Leech Council 4472 and was proud to be a 4th degree Sir Knight in Holy family Assembly 3281. Charles loved being involved with the St Paul's Seafood festival. When oncoming storms threatened the Gulf coast, Charles would immediately offer the family property as safe harbor for cars, boats, trailers, etc.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gulfport Memorial hospital for their impeccable care. They are deeply grateful for the many friends, neighbors, and the residence staff that checked on him daily. One of Charles' favorite closing remarks was "love ya, kid"
