Larry Burks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lockett-Williams Mortuary, Inc. - Gulfport on Mar. 27, 2026.
Larry Kenneth Burks Jr., lovingly known as "Cake Daddy" and "Kenny," was born on July 23, 1978, and passed peacefully on March 23, 2026. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and a bold personality that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

A graduate of Harrison Central High School and former varsity football player, Larry carried his passion for sports throughout his life. He later became a dedicated football coach in Pass Christian, Mississippi, where he mentored and inspired young athletes with both discipline and heart.

Known for his humor and love of spirited debate, Kenny had a gift for bringing joy to any room. His nickname reflected not just who he was, but the warmth and energy he shared with others.

He also worked proudly as a longshoreman, forming strong bonds with his coworkers who stood by him through life's challenges.

Larry's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his ten children: Marquies (Juneisses) Simmons, Montez (Amari) Green, Montrel McGowan, Larry Burks III, Lashowan Laneaux, Kyran Laneaux, Mario Burks, Konner Burks, Larriyah Burks, and Honesti Burks. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Marquise Jr., Aubri, Kiera, Ju'Siah, Astra, Amarah, and Alani.

He is preceded in death by his wife, LaConya Burks; his brother, Mario Burks; his father, Larry Burks Sr.; his dear friend, Randy Johnson; and his mother-in-law, Laverne Laneaux.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Janis Burks; his sisters, Sharita Burks, Melinda Gaines, and Ramonda McLaughlin; his brother, Daniel Haynes; and a host of family and friends.

Services will be held Friday, April 3rd from 12:00 p.m., followed by a repast, at the Isiah Frederick Community Center, 3312 Martin Luther King Dr., Gulfport, MS.

Kenny will be remembered for his laughter, his love, and his unforgettable spirit. Heaven is brighter-and louder-with him there.
