Charles Jack Schankin, 86, of Petersburg went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 4th. Jack, as he was known by his friends & family, was under the excellent care of the Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian at the time of his death. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, Wednesday April 9, 2025, from 3-8PM. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.

Jack graduated from Summerfield High School in 1957. He then went on to obtain a B.S. degree in education from Eastern Michigan University in 1961. He would later add two additional advanced degrees from EMU in the field of education.

On Aug. 5, 1961, Jack married Linda Menzel, his wife of 63 years, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Petersburg. After graduating from college, Jack taught social studies for 3 years in Marine City followed by a 1-year stint at Monroe Custer Junior High School. He then began a 36-year career as an administrator with 2-year stints as a high school principal at Britton & Fowlerville before finding his niche at Dundee High School where he was employed for 32 years before retiring in 2001.

Jack was known for being a strict disciplinarian but strived to conduct his daily activities with a philosophy of "being firm, fair, & consistent ". In 1990, Jack brought the Close-Up Program to Dundee. Close-Up allowed juniors & seniors the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. for a week of learning activities. During Jack's 11 years as head of the program, he personally contributed to the fundraising effort by selling $11,000 worth of calendars & recipe books.

Jack thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids & also had a great love for sports. He coached for 14 years in the Summerfield Little League program, had season tickets to U of M football games for over 40 years, could be found in the stands at every one of his grandchildren's Summerfield athletic events, and was an avid supporter of Dundee wrestling.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Charles & Ruth (Harvey) Schankin, his younger brother LeRoy, and his son Kevin. He is survived by his wife Linda; his brother Harold (Jean) Schankin of Deerfield; his sister Kathy Lloyd of Imlay City; his sons David & Brian (Michelle) of Petersburg; 3 grandchildren; Steve Schankin, Trent (Koryn) Schankin, & Dawn (Zach) Perry; & one great grandchild, Wynn Schankin.
