Charles Otto Scherzer

Charles O. Scherzer age 87 of Detroit Lakes, MN died August 23, 2024, at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes.

Charlie was born June 23, 1937, in Callaway, MN to George and Ruby (Hammer) Scherzer. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. He served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea. Charlie married Marilyn Matzek on November 9, 1963. They had twin children Kelly and Erik. Marilyn passed away May 27, 1992. Over the years Charlie lived in various states, including North Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri, managing agricultural stores for International Harvester. On October 5, 1999, he married Barb Myklebust Moench.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Barb; daughter, Kelly (Dan) Vetter, Jessica Moench, and Mark (Emily) Moench; daughter in law, Kim Scherzer; grandchildren, Travis Vetter, Molly Vetter, Paige Vetter, Nolan Scherzer, Emeri Scherzer, Alonna Moench, Vance Moench, and Andrew Moench.

Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Erik; his parents; and several brothers, sisters, and other relatives.
