Charles Shaw, 80, of Holstein died on July 29, 2025, in Alma, NE. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Grace United Methodist Church in Holstein. Burial will follow at Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Charles L. was born September 21, 1944, in Hastings, NE, to Leland “Rusty” and Margaret (Lang) Shaw. He attended county school south of Holstein until they moved to town; then he attended and graduated from Holstein High School in 1962. He went on to graduate from barber school in Lincoln.
While attending school in Holstein, he met the love of his life, Linda Hansen. They were married on June 28, 1964, at the Holstein Methodist Church. Together they were blessed with children: Colleen, Timothy, and Bradley. Charlie worked as a barber in Holstein and Hastings for many years. He retired from barbering in 1980 and then took over the family farm where he farmed and raised cattle until 2016.
He enjoyed camping and was part of a camping club, taking care of his flowers and lawn, riding his Ranger, and spending winters in Texas. In their younger years he and Linda loved to go square dancing.
Survivors include daughter, Colleen (Randy) Kothe; grandsons: Eric (Andrea) Kothe and Nick Kothe; granddaughter, Jenna (Brad) Reiter; great grandchildren: Colten Kothe, Hunter Kothe, Makenzie Kothe, Val Jean Reiter, Virginia Reiter, Charles Reiter; brother, Russ (Debra) Shaw; nieces: Tami (Joel) Kershner, Debbie (Todd) Burns; and nephews: Kevin (Kristen) Shaw and Kent Shaw.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; very special sons: Timothy and Bradley Shaw; brother, Les (Cheryl Felzien) Shaw; in-laws, Kenneth and Marcella (Kennedy) Hansen; and brother-in-law, Jerry L. Hansen.
