Charles Barnard Shirley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 77 in his hometown of Evansville, Indiana. Born on January 30, 1948, to Roseanna and Meredith Shirley, Charles was a man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, a passion for mechanics, and a legacy of kindness that touched all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Shirley, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Their family blossomed with the birth of their children, Jeremy Shirley (Debra) and Cheryl Miller (Darin), who then gave Charles the joy of being a grandfather to Nolan (Cayley), Adriana, Brittany, Hannah (Michael) Busing, Kiersten, and Breanne. His role as a great-grandfather to Brantley, Charlie Rose, Nylan, and Brexlee was one he cherished with all his heart. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Norma, Jerry, Mel, his stepbrother Nelson (Mary), and his half-sister Mary Below.

For over three decades, Charles dedicated his skills to Alcoa, where he worked as a Mechanical Maintenance expert. His colleagues knew him as a man who could solve any problem and was always willing to lend a hand. His intelligence and handy nature were not confined to his professional life; they were also the cornerstone of his personal passions.

An automotive enthusiast, Charles possessed an extraordinary talent for cars. He could disassemble and reassemble a car with such finesse and speed that it left onlookers in awe. His pride and joy were his meticulously maintained 1962 Impala, which he transformed into a formidable drag car, and a stunning 1950 GMC with a wood bed that was the envy of classic car lovers. His love for his dogs was equally profound, reflecting his capacity for love and care.

Those who knew Charles would describe him as loving and intelligent. He was the father figure that everyone wished for, a man whose presence was a source of comfort and joy. His ability to fix anything, his gentle guidance, and his unwavering support made him a pillar in the lives of many.

Charles Barnard Shirley's legacy is one of love, dedication, and exceptional talent. His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his remarkable life. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary man, we celebrate the indelible mark he has left on our world. Charles will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us every day.
