Carl M. Shirley

Carl M. Shirley, 93, of Conemaugh Township, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025 in Latrobe Hospital.

Born February 6, 1932 in Conemaugh Township, he was a son of the late Joseph Shirley and Anna (Tenney) Shirley.

Carl attended Saltsburg High School, and proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the founder of the well-regarded Shirley Heating and Air Conditioning, a business he started in October of 1956. Until his business was established, Carl worked at Allied Heating & Cooling and Schulteis Bros Heating & Cooling for a few years. He was a member of the Saltsburg Lions Club.

Carl loved working outside, including gardening and running his tractor and lawnmower. He also liked restoring old equipment as well. Carl liked going to his camp at Lock 9 on the Allegheny River, and traveling to his second home in Palm Bay, Florida. He most loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Oliver) Shirley, who passed away on October 1, 2007; son, Scott Shirley, who passed away on February 12, 2023; and his siblings, Virginia Brough, Emily Schall, Velma Harkleroad, Richard Shirley, and Margie Shank.

Carl is survived by his children, Greg. C. (Marlene) Shirley of Saltsburg, Carla A. Shirley of Plum, Valerie R. (Stanley) Sieczkowski of Saltsburg; grandchildren, Stanley "Stushie" Jr. (Katy), Holly (Derek), Danny, Syd (Brandi), Cayley, Jenna, Noah; great-grandchildren, Dante, Olivia, Eli, Audrey, Axel, Zander, Saul; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and last but not least, his beloved German Shepherd, Max.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 701 Salt St., Saltsburg. Additional viewing will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration Of Life Tribute Service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg, where military honors will be accorded by the Saltsburg American Legion Honor Guard.
