Charles Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stewart Family Funeral Home - Tyler on Jun. 4, 2024.
Charles "Chuck" Smith left this life surrounded by family to join his Lord and Savior on June 3, 2024, at the age of 70. Chuck was born to Lynton and Thelma Smith on January 3, 1954, in Austin, Texas.
Chuck was a witty, fun-loving individual who loved to crack jokes. He was a hard-worker known for his love for people, including those he just met. His generous spirit and dedication to helping others were hallmarks of his character, and his love for the Lord guided him through a life of service and compassion.
He is survived by wife Karen Smith of Tyler, Texas; son Judson Smith of Tyler, Texas; daughter/son-in-law, Jelaine and Joshua Stewart of Flint, Texas; grandson Jackson Stewart of Flint, Texas; brother/sister-in-law Ed and Linda Smith of McKinney, Texas; half-sister Carole "Sissy" Litz-Cipriano of Clearfield, Pennsylvania; many beloved nephews and nieces, and his dog Colt.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Lynton Smith; his mother Thelma Smith; and his beloved dogs.
He found the most joy under the lights at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium cheering for his Texas Longhorns as a season ticket holder for many years. He cherished the memory of walking his friend "Bubba" through the tunnel onto the field beside coach Darrell Royal. Chuck's love for sports began at an early age and continued as he grew up pitching in baseball. He loved coaching his son through many years of Little League and enjoyed playing softball into his young adult life. Chuck loved traveling and creating memories with his family during summer vacations. He could not wait to get back to his favorite place, the Smoky Mountains. Chuck had a gift for landscaping. Through that passion, he built many friendships. He loved animals, especially dogs, and was known for giving out treats to the neighborhood dogs when they were out on their walks. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
A celebration of life will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas on June 7, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on June 6, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Lytton Springs Cemetery at a future date.
Pallbearers are Judson Smith, Joshua Stewart, Chad Smith, Brad Smith, Caison Smith, and Johnathan Willis.
