Charles D. Smith, (Chuck) passed away on August 21st surrounded by his loved ones, listening to his favorite singer Dean Martin and his loyal cat Abby by his side.

Chuck was born in Delaware County on September 2nd 1931. His mother passed away in 1933 and he was raised by his Aunt Marry and Uncle John Bennett. Chuck graduated from Albany High School in 1950 where he was elected to the Albany High School Hall of Fame.

On February 16th, 1968 Chuck married his lifelong love Joanne along with her three daughters Connie Jordan (husband Warren), Carla Hiestand, and Debbie Stone (husband Trent) from their girls they gained grandchildren Justin Jordan, Josh Jordan (spouse Wayne Deibel), Jeremy Jordan (spouse Sheri), Kayla Miller (spouse Brent), Connor Stone (spouse Taylor), Brock Hiestand, Mischon Low (spouse Chase), Saige York (companion Leighton Beaty), and Jade York (companion Michael Parker). On June 22nd, 1970, Chuck and Joanne welcomed their son Mark (wife Wendy) and grandson Korie Charles Smith was born June 11th 2005. Papaw was an honor he wore with great pride. Chuck also had 11 great grandchildren and one more on the way in January.

Chuck was a hardworking man. In 1990, Chuck retired from Indiana Gas, ran a paper route in Westbrook addition from 1984 to 2007, his first job was at the Sky High Drive in, other jobs included working for Dr. Marsh at the Dermatology Center, started his own company Mark III Portable Lubing, as well as running his own placemat advertising company, supplying over 2 million advertising placemats in restaurants in Delaware, Madison, Randolph, and Blackford Counties. Charles loved to mow and took great pride in having a well-manicured lawn.

Chuck was a huge fan of I.U. Basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds, Mark and Chuck would chat on the phone for hours about sports.

In keeping with Chuck's wishes there will be no visitation hours, or services. Cremation will take place with burial of the ashes at a later time at Hawk Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and his nurse Patty, and Dr. Mark Reedy for his care and help.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Chucks name to Animal Rescue Fund (A.R.F.), 1209 W. Riggin Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
