Charles Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Gloucester on Jan. 20, 2026.
Charles W. Smith, 87, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness.
Charlie was born on March 30, 1938, in Medford, MA to the late Albert C. Smith and Doris (Mullett) Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his lifelong sense of duty and integrity.
Charlie spent much of his professional career working as an aircraft engineer at General Electric, where he was respected for his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic. In his younger years, he found great joy on the water, waterskiing, and as a lobsterman out of Lane's Cove, as well as the unofficial harbormaster, embracing the traditions and rhythms of coastal life.
After retirement, Charlie cherished his time in North Hampton, NH where he enjoyed farming and the simple pleasures of rural life. During winter months, he spent time skiing in the White Mountains. These years were among his happiest, marked by hard work, independence, and a deep connection to the land.
He is survived by his companion, Kathy Mollica, and his son, Gregg Smith, as well as other family members and friends. Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Albert E. Smith.
Visiting Hours will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester, on Friday, January 23rd from 5pm to 7pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. His graveside service will at the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, NH on Saturday, January 24th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' memory may be made to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester or to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
