Giuseppa Sanfilippo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Gloucester from Jan. 28 to Jan. 29, 2026.
Giuseppa (Carini) Sanfilippo, 91, of Gloucester, died peacefully on Monday January, 26th. Born in Porticello, Palermo, Italy, she was the wife of the late Simone Sanfilippo and daughter to the late Antonino and Caterina (Balistreri) Carini.

She was known for her skills as a homemaker, her ability to befriend anyone who came through Beach Court, and being devoted to the St. Peter's Fiesta which she eagerly awaited each year. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cummaries, and her many cherished friends.

She was many things in her life, but above all else, she was "Nonna", "Ma", "Zia", and "Cummare". In her community, she was well known and deeply loved. She was known as the "Mother of all Mothers" and expressed her love by sharing homemade meals with everyone. No one ever left her home hungry and everyone felt welcome.

Giuseppa is survived by her six sons, Domenic Sanfilippo, Anthony Sanfilippo and his wife, Anna, Nicola Sanfilippo and his wife, Ann Marie, Joseph Sanfilippo and his wife, Julie, Francesco Sanfilippo, and his wife, Susannah, Salvatore Sanfilippo and his partner, John Davidson; 12 grandchildren, Josephine Dawes, Anthony Sanfilippo, Alexander Sanfilippo, Kate Sanfilippo, Daniel Sanfilippo, Adam Sanfilippo, Julia Sanfilippo, Arianna Grosso, Kristen Sanfilippo, Simone Turco, Ryan Sanfilippo, Noah Sanfilippo; nine great-grandchildren, Lucca, Nico and Ava Dawes, Oliver and Benjamin Wettlin, Sophie and Jonah Sanfilippo, Roman Turco, and Andrew Sanfilippo; many devoted nieces and nephews who considered her to be their second mother, along with her dearest cummaries of Gloucester and Sicily. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Francesco Carini and Santo Carini; four sisters, Anna Principato, Carmelina Balistreri, Elena DiMaio and Maria Rosa Balistreri; one daughter in-law, Theresa Budrow Sanfilippo.

Her funeral Mass will be at St. Ann's Church, 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester on Friday January 30th at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10am to 11am.

The family warmly invites you to join them for a reception in the church hall following the services at 12:30pm.

God rest your Soul. My parents loved having you as neighbors and friends. For many years I have spoken about all the Mothers in the back yard, cooking, laughing and enjoying each other´s company.
