Charles Fountain Smith Sr. was born on July 9 in Slidell, Louisiana, to Natalie Seal and “Pappy” Fountain Smith. He proudly served one tour in the United States Navy and later earned his GED. Charles went on to work as a mechanical supervisor for Diamond Offshore, where he dedicated many years before retiring in 2020. He was also an active and committed member of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and Calvary Baptist Church. Charles passed away on January 26, 2026.
Charley is survived by his children CJ and Dulce Smith, Brantley Barlow, and Amanda Smith; his grandchildren Mercedes Kelly, Rachel Smith, Allie Smith, Jaden Brock, Taylor Pophal, Peyton Pierce, Rhiana Whaley, and Remington Reeves; and his great-grandchildren River Polson, Clyde Polson, Eli Hewitt, Tatum Hewitt, and Athena Robertson. He also leaves behind his brother, James, and his sister, Louise.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy Smith, his parents Natalie Seal and “Pappy” Fountain Smith, and his brother, William.
His marriage to Dorothy and the birth of his son CJ were two of the most important events in his life. Charley was a devoted husband and father who deeply enjoyed spending time with his family and helping others.
Charley was determined and always loved to stay busy. You could often find him in his shop or at the church, working on one project or another. Lending a helping hand brought him joy and fulfillment. He took great pride in teaching Brantley his skills, tricks, and hobbies—taking him to every fire department meeting and teaching him how to back a trailer and drive by the age of 13. Charley always said Brantley would be a great mechanic.
Charley was a teacher, a helper, and a man of strong faith. He instilled in those around him the importance of standing strong and learning how to be successful on their own. He loved the Lord and lived by his faith. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private service for family will be held.
