On October 8, 2024 Charles Darren Sollie went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is now in heaven, rejoicing with no more cancer. There is true joy, even in the midst of sorrow, because of this.
Darren is survived by his dad John Edmond Sollie and stepmom Margaret Sollie of Talladega, Alabama; his wife of 28 years Lynn Sollie of Milford DE; their children Margaret (Alexis) Torres-Sollie, Anna Marie, Andrew (Morgan), Anthony, Aaron (Amelia), Karena, Luke, Paul, James, Joshua, Malachi, Caleb, Madalynn, and Loralis; his brother Glenn Sollie and his wife Lena of Opelika, Alabama; grandchildren Marco, Ezra, and Sofia, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a very special aunt, Mary Helen Pierce of Mobile, Alabama; as well as a special friend Chay Pennell of Dover, DE who was like another son to him. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie Bee Sollie
Darren was born on March 5, 1971 in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1989 and went on to attend Auburn University where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in building science/operations management. As a young man, Darren earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned three palms in addition to this.
Darren married Lynn on June 29, 1996. They met thru his nephew Zachary who had cancer and Lynn was his nurse at the Childrens Hospital of Alabama. Darren and Lynn were blessed with fourteen children. Darren was an amazing father and husband. Most of all, he was a wonderful spiritual leader for his family.
Darren has worked for American Cedar and Millwork for over 20 years. It was this job that brought him here to Delaware in 2000. He worked as a purchasing manager for the Lewes store. He built strong friendships and connections with many people in the building industry throughout his career. The company truly treated us like family and provided for many needs throughout Darrens illness and we will forever be grateful to them.
Darren has served in ministry all his life. He taught junior high Sunday school with his wife Lynn for over 20 years at Southside Baptist Church in Camden DE. He also used his building skills to help with the facilities at the church in many ways. Darren was raised in church all his life and attended First Baptist Church in Trussville Alabama. He committed his life to Christ at a young age and continued to walk in that faith the rest of his life. He used to tell stories about riding his bike to the church daily after school for bible studies, youth groups or to play basketball in the gym.
A ministry called Men on Mission was a passion of Darrens and very dear to his heart. Darren attended his first Men on Mission trip with his dad as a teenager. This involved going once a year on a week-long trip to help build facilities to a church in need. God gifted Darren with the knowledge and the ability to build. Building for the Lord was a very important part of his life and ministry. He would also attend the planning trips to determine what the needs were and was a great asset to this ministry. He took his boys with him year after year on these trips as well, showing them the importance of doing God's work and helping others.
Darren and Lynn have been attending Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown Delaware for eight years. Darren was in the process of pursuing a masters degree thru the School of Theology. He also looked forward to attending Bible studies on Wednesday and men's Bible study on Sundays. He was able to take about twenty men from Crossroad to the Men on Mission trip to South Carolina in June. He spoke and shared his testimony on Fathers Day a couple years ago, and encouraged the congregation to walk in faith. Darren helped out with Vacation Bible School as well.
Darren loved watching his children play soccer. He also loved coaching soccer, which he did for over 15 years thru Harrington Parks and Recreation. He could always be seen on the sidelines of Milford High School games cheering his boys on as well.
Darren was an avid Auburn Tigers fan. He loved to watch them play basketball and football. Orange and blue were his favorite colors to wear especially during football season. He would hang the Auburn Flag outside the house on big game days also. He taught each child the auburn cheer "War Eagle" by the time they were 1.5 years old. Several of the children came home as babies from the hospital wearing auburn attire. There were great family times watching the games on TV, and even attending several in person, which the whole family loved.
Darren was a true man of faith. His trust in the Lord and his peace in all circumstances was evident for all to see. He never feared even after he was diagnosed with cancer, because he said God works all things for good. On the day that Darren was diagnosed with cancer November 10, 2019, he heard the Lord speak and tell him not to worry, and so he never did. He would tell others the Lord never told me he was going to heal me, he just said to trust him and not worry. What a legacy and testimony Darren has been for all to see. A man who loved his family and loved the Lord. I have no doubt the Lord ushered Darren into heaven with the words "well done, my good and faithful servant". We will see him again in heaven and for this, we rejoice.
