Charles Richard "Dick" Sparks

Charles Richard Sparks, his friends called him Dick, was a one-of-a-kind man. Born in London Kentucky on February 6th 1938 to Virgil and Viola Sparks. The family moved to Gresham Oregon in 1940, where they resided on Walters hill. He attended Gresham high School, where he pushed many garbage cans down the main stairs, due to him being a hooligan.

Dick served in the Oregon National Guard for a short time and would dedicate his life to being a lineman with PGE for 37 years. He set up many towers in the area, such as the ones that are on Lolo Pass and he would work many, if not all the storms through his career.

He is survived by his wife; Juanita, brother; Jim, daughter; Alix, stepson; James as well as two grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and a great-grandson and great granddaughter.

Regularly Dick could be found cruising down Main Street Gresham in his Jeep Wrangler and cracking jokes with friends and strangers alike at local places he liked to visit such as Bar 33 or Pleasant Home Saloon. He loved old cars and would frequent cars shows when he could, occasionally entering his car he restored to "period correct" 1958 Biscayne 2 door. He loved social interaction and enjoyed company.

Formal services for close friends and family will be held at Pleasant Home Methodist Church on November the 29th at 11am. A Celebration of life will take place at the Gresham Elks Lodge at 4pm following the formal service.

Dick passed away October 17, 2025 surrounded by family. He will be remembered as a jokester, dedicated worker, supportive friend, strong husband and a real light in the room. His cracky and tough exterior was just a cover for a loving and caring man who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
