Charles Kelly Stephens, 86, of Platte City, MO passed away peacefully at his home on November 29, 2023. He was born March 7, 1937 in Yates Center, KS to George A. and Susan Marie (Henry) Stephens.
Kelly graduated high school in Yates Center and then proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. He spent the majority of his career as a mechanic for TWA before retiring from American Airlines as a production supervisor. Kelly had a passion for aviation and was a licensed private pilot and flight instructor.
Kelly had a deep love for family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a die-hard Chiefs fan and enjoyed tinkering around the house. He was a master craftsman and was very proud of the small airplane and Chiefs scooter he had made.
He married Patricia L. Shaw on November 12, 1960 in Yates Center. In addition to Pat, survivors include a daughter, Marla G. Story and husband, Dennis of Platte City; a son, Michael K. Stephens and wife, Heather of Bondurant, IA; grandchildren: Alyssa Story – Lugo, Justin M. Stephens, Aric M. Story, Braden Rowe and Kayla Hendrix. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Carla and Mark Stephens; five sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, KS. Graveside services and military honors will immediately follow at the Yates Center Cemetery with Pastor Brady Testorff officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
