Charles E. Sterling, affectionately known as "Tekon," “Etex,” or "Charlie" passed away on August 18, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on May 18, 1954, in Ferrier, Haiti, Tekon's spirit was a blend of quiet strength and vibrant humor. He dedicated his life to nurturing his faith and supporting his family, leaving behind a legacy that will surely resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
In Haiti, Etex attended Seminary of Mazenod in Camp Perrin where he met his Wife and some of his friends here with us today. Etex worked in Hospitality and served with dedication for over 25 years for Marriott, where he earned the distinction of being a member of the Quarter Century Club. His commitment and discipline was truly commendable, and his passion for service shined brightly throughout his years of hard work. He retired in 2021 at the age of 67, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and dedication.
His love for engaging conversations was evident in his frequent phone calls with family and friends. At home, he often shared stories and imparted valuable life lessons to his children. Tekon was known for his inviting voice and captivating stories. He had a distinctive talent for creating funny sound effects and endearing nicknames for those close to him. His personality embodied a mixture of quiet reflection and boisterous humor, making him a cherished figure among friends and family alike.
In addition to his engaging stories, Tekon took great delight in simple pleasures. He loved reading the bible, praying, growing fruit and vegetables in the backyard, watching the weather channel, playing with his grandson Khenai, and traveling with his beloved wife, Louise "Gina", and his large family. Tekon often spoke of his proudest accomplishment: turning 70, an age he celebrated with the same profound gratitude he directed towards life.
Tekon's family was his anchor and pride. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gina Sterling "Boule", his children, Alexander Sterling "Lex", Kensley H. Sterling "Shlay", Deenadeja Sterling "Za", and Jessica S. Sterling "Jess". His legacy will also resonate through his grandson, Khenai H. Sterling "Ken". He leaves behind his dear sister Marie Arnouze Ciceron and brother Jean Claude Sterling. Charles was predeceased by his beloved mother, Elide Charles; father, Alexandre Sterling; and brothers Dr.Gaston Sterling and Salnave Sterling.
