He was born October 17, 1934 in Washington County, IN to Emmet Sterling and Alice Dowling Sterling. He married Carolyn J. Schroer on December 17, 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Nikki Lynn Bagwill; stepchildren, Steven (Tammy) Weaver, Georgette (Roger) Brewer, and Susan Weaver; two sisters, Patty Elmore and Carolyn Carr; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sterling, on October 16, 2025; parents; brother, Leslie Leroy Sterling; and sisters, Wannetta Shaw and Velma Clark.
He was veteran of the U.S. Army. His memberships included the American Legion, V.F.W. and the Eagles.
Charles was a Brick Mason all his life.
Visitation will take place from 11-1PM, Monday, October 27, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 Gaiser Drive, Seymour. A funeral service will follow at 1PM at the church. He will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 Gaiser Drive, Seymour, IN 47274, or to Trinity Lutheran High School, 1 Trinity Way, Seymour, IN 47274.
