Charles Thompson was born on June 16, 1961, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Veda (Cleophus) Howard and Charles Thompson. He received his early education at St. Phillip Catholic School and Battle Creek Central High School, later earning his GED. A skilled tradesman, Charles became a master electrician and built a career marked by dedication and hard work.
He spent more than 30 years in Texas, where he worked as both an over-the-road truck driver and an electrician. Upon returning to Battle Creek, he continued his trucking career with HAAS Trucking in Albion, Michigan. Driving big rigs across the country was one of Charles’s greatest joys—he quite literally traveled the highways of America from coast to coast.
Charles had a deep affection for cats, often remarking, “I don’t trust a man that doesn’t like cats.” His beloved companion, Tigger, accompanied him faithfully on many journeys, bringing comfort and companionship along the road. Beyond his work, Charles cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed relaxing with loved ones and found adventure in traveling on his favorite Gold Wing motorcycle.
On November 30, 2025, Charles departed this life suddenly yet peacefully at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Veda Howard; his father, Charles Thompson; his sister, Susan Lashar Fletcher; and his best friend, Greg Beverly.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, remembered by his wife, Golden Triggs-Thompson; his daughter, Miracle Joy Thompson; his stepfather, Cleophus Howard; his sister, Charlyn Jackson; his brothers, Brian Eugene Thompson, Charles Anthony (Toni) Thompson, and Terry Chase; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Charles was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Battle Creek, Michigan, under the leadership of Pastor Troxler. His life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and love for family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charles’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. May his memory be a blessing, and may the love he shared continue to guide and comfort his family and friends.
