Mr. Charles Joseph Torline, age 85, of
Madison, Indiana entered this life on January 31, 1938 in
Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the loving son of Joseph A. and Marie Schafer Torline, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a 1956 graduate of Shawe Memorial High School in
Madison, Indiana. He entered the United States Air Force in 1956 and served thirty one days of active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1963. He was united in marriage to Martha Helen Winkel on September 5, 1959 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in downtown Madison. This happy union of 63 years was blessed with five sons, Joseph, Brian, James, William, and Robert. He worked at Rex Chain Belt and U.S. Filter for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1998. He spent most of his life in Jefferson County and was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Lodge, and was a charter member of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed farming and gardening and loved spending time with his family. Charlie helped with funeral mass for many years as a server. Charlie died suddenly on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 9:08 a.m. in the Emergency Room at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in

Charlie will be missed by his loving sons, Joseph Torline and his wife Cheryl of Scottsburg, Indiana, Brian Torline and his wife Debbie of Berwick, Louisiana, James Torline and his wife Teresa of North Vernon, Indiana, William Torline and his wife Priscilla of
Madison, Indiana, and Robert Torline and his wife Kelly of Rockmart, Georgia; his seventeen grandchildren; Amber Ochalek (Andrew), Allison Torline, Vanessa Torline, Melanie Torline, Eric Torline, Tyler Hernandez (Marta), Patrick Hernandez (Leo), Erin Horine (Clinton), Major Evan Torline, MD (Sara), Sarah Basmadji (David), Nicholas Torline (Mackenzie), Alexander Torline (Brittany), Spencer Torline, Jonathan Torline, Justin Torline, Jordan Torline (Elizabeth), Robert Braden Torline; his seventeen great-grandchildren; Avalon Ochalek, Leo Horine, Isaac Horine, Luke Horine, Rafael Torline, Mia Torline, Mahlee Basmadji, Finnley Basmadji, Adalyn Torline, Harley Torline, Arwen Torline, Kairi Torline, Avery Torline, Ava Grace Torline, Charlie Mae Torline, Sawyer Torline and Samuel Torline; his brother, Dr. Phillip Torline and his wife, Stephanie of South Africa; his sisters in law, Dorothy Winkel of
Madison, Indiana, Delores Spoonmore of
Madison, Indiana, Carolyn Smith of
Madison, Indiana, and Patricia Torline of
Madison, Indiana; his brother-in-law, Joseph Winkel of Dacula, Georgia; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph August Torline, died September 28, 1983, his mother, Marie Matilda Schafer Torline, died December 27, 2000, his beloved wife of 63 years, Martha Helen Winkel Torline, died September 9, 2022 and his brother, Paul Edward Torline, died July 10, 2023.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL
Funeral Mass will be conducted Monday, July 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., by Father Christopher A. Craig at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown
Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, 305 West State Street in
Madison, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may visit July 30, 2023, Sunday from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in
Madison, Indiana.

Military honors will be provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
