Mr. Paul Edward "P.T." Torline, age 82, of
Madison, Indiana entered this life on October 23, 1940, in
Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Joseph A. and Marie M. Schafer Torline. His family moved to Madison when he was just one year old, and he resided there the rest of his life. "P.T.", as some of his friends would call him, graduated from Shawe Memorial High School in 1959. He was inducted into the United States Army and served at Fort Leonard Wood where he rose to the rate of Specialist E-5 and was honorably discharged. On January 19, 1963, Paul was united in marriage to Patricia S. Begley at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in
Madison, Indiana. This happy union was blessed with a daughter, Angela and a son, Mark. Paul worked early in life for Grote Manufacturing and then in communications with Indiana Telephone Company. In 1966 he began working at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison in the communications department and retired in 2005 after it closed with 39 years of service. Paul was a great supporter of the Shawe Booster Club and would help collect newspapers every Saturday with his buddies, Mel Skiles and Gary Armbrecht, to perpetuate the club. He was assistant scout master with Boy Scout Troop 721 for over ten years and was known as "Uncle Paul" by the boys. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge and would often call Bingo and help cook. He was a faithful member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and would help with the funeral dinners. Paul donated over 20 gallons of blood to the Red Cross throughout his lifetime and proudly displayed the pins on his hat that he wore. He loved to bake and cook; he made the best yeast rolls, Christmas cookies, and chocolate chip cookies. He even won the Madison Courier Cookie Contest as the only male entry with his cookies. In 2000 he was awarded the second Golden Shamrock Award that was given by the Friends of Shawe and Pope John for his contribution and dedication to the schools. Paul loved nature, animals, being outdoors, and he loved to watch the Colts Football, the Cincinnati Reds Baseball, and IU Basketball. He was a kind and genuine soul who helped wherever needed. Paul died on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 12:35 a.m. at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in
