UTICA – Mr. Charles T. "Chuck" Trascritti, Sr., age 89, went home to the Lord, after the Anointing of the Sick, encircled by the love of his family, on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 11, 1936, Charles was cherished and nurtured by his mother, the late Mary Caruso, who devoted herself to raising and caring for him. As a young boy, Chuck moved to Utica and attended Brandegee School and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School. He had the opportunity to attend the Utica Boys Trade School, where he gained the skills that launched him into a successful career as an auto mechanic.
Chuck met the love of his life, the former Rosemary DeGrace, on a blind date that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. On November 27, 1954, they were united in marriage at Blessed Sacrament Church. Together, they shared nearly 71 beautiful years of marriage filled with faith, family, and countless cherished memories. Their life together was one of devotion, laughter, and love - a blessing that Rosemary will forever hold close to her heart.
From 1960 to 1980, Chuck worked as a Master Air Conditioning Mechanic, and later joined Utica Veal Co., a large and well-known local family business, where he remained until his retirement in 1990. A dedicated and hardworking man, he was respected and admired for his reliability and strong work ethic.
Chuck came to understand the true meaning of love and fulfillment through his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud 'Pop' to his grandchildren. Every year, he became Santa with a full routine, delighting the children with a sure surprise - and he would even stand in as Santa for a friend, never wanting to disappoint anyone. In all things, Chuck's generosity and care for others shone brightly.
With his outgoing personality and natural leadership, Chuck always stepped forward to get things done - and done right. Known for his ingenuity, he often joked, "duct tape fixes everything at least until I figure it out."
A community-minded man, Chuck gave his time and talents generously. He served with integrity on numerous boards and in several organizations, including the Former Sons of Italy Lodge #2054, where he was President from 1996 to 2000, and later as State Trustee of the Sons of Italy of America from 2000 to 2004. In the 1960s, he was a Boy Scout Leader at Conkling School, guiding children with patience and compassion. A proud participant in Il Coro Italiano, he cherished the Santa Croce family, who were wonderful mentors. The group performed at community events, nursing homes, and feasts, bringing joy to all who heard them. Chuck also sang with the Yesterday's Ensemble Choir, where they practiced and performed at the Parkway, North Utica, and West Utica Senior Centers. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the Proctor Boys Alumni Club, remaining active with them until recent years.
Chuck enjoyed an active life filled with adventure and enthusiasm. Among his favorite pastimes were water-skiing-especially on one ski-and riding his beloved 1963 Honda Dream motorcycle, often with no particular destination, just the open road and the wind on his face. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan for many years, rarely missing a race and cheering passionately for his favorite drivers. In 1998, Chuck and Rosemary began wintering in Daytona Beach, Florida, where they built a wonderful circle of friends. Living just minutes from the Daytona International Speedway brought Chuck immense joy, and it was no surprise to find him there, soaking in the excitement of the race.
A man of integrity, Chuck was deeply attentive to the needs of his wife, always mindful of her requests and well-being. His productive life earned him a reputation that will be long remembered. His family will recall his memorable phrase, "That's enough," words that reflected his gentle humor and unmistakable wisdom.
Chuck practiced his faith at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife, Rosemary; daughters and son-in-law, Roxanne and Frank Guido, and Cindy Nicotera; son, Charles Trascritti, Jr.; grandchildren, Nicole Guido; Sheri Vitale; Fred Jr. and Rachel Nicotera, and Aaron Trascritti; and great-granddaughter, Carmella Venettozzi; and one on the way!
Chuck had several siblings, with a special relationship with his brother, Frank Trascritti, who preceded him. The family is blessed to remain close with Frank's wife, Marie Frances Trascritti.
He is further survived by his in-laws, Stephen DeGrace, Jr., whom he loved as a son, and his wife, Kelly; and several nieces and nephews, including Tina and Ted Damiano, Stephanie and Todd Crandall, and Christopher and Georganne DeGrace. He was additionally predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen Sr. and Carmella (Forgione) DeGrace; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Julia A. "Judy" and John A. Taverne, Sr.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his granddaughter, Sheri, whose devoted care brought comfort, dignity, and love to her grandfather throughout his illness. They also deeply appreciate the Sitrin Health Care Center, notably the entre staff of the Rehabilitation Department, who treated him with compassion, attentiveness, and genuine care as a person. Their kindness and dedication will always be remembered.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Charles' Memorial Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, 422 Tilden Ave. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass.
