Charles E. Vandergriff, affectionately known as "Butch," passed away at the age of 83 on November 17, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born on July 25, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, to Gene and Edith Vandergriff. Butch will be remembered fondly by his family and friends as a warm-hearted individual who loved to share stories and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Butch also mourned the loss of his daughters, Nancy McHale and Sandra Kay Vandergriff, along with his siblings Becky Shannon, Betty Lou Lee, and Clarence Eugene (Babeboy).
Butch is survived by his daughters, Tammy and Jenny (Daniel) Vandergriff, and his son-in-law, Tim McHale. He took great joy in his grandchildren, Tiffany (Anthony) Saunders and Cam McHale, and was delighted to be a great-grandfather to Donavon and Davina Saunders. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends, who will cherish their memories of him.
Butch dedicated 18 years with Magic Chef and spent an additional 20 years of his career to Griffin Wheel before his retirement. He had a passion for fishing, especially with his grandson Cam, and enjoyed attending car shows, antiquing, or browsing flea markets. In his leisure time, Butch liked watching car races, westerns, and cheering on Ohio State Football, alongside enjoying meals out with family and friends.
A memorial gathering will take place on November 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:00 PM.
Butch Vandergriff will be deeply missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and affection that touched all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lions Club, it was an organization close to Butch's heart.
