Charles William Vicory of Jackson, Michigan, age 81, husband of the late Shirley Ann Vicory, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024.
On February 15th, 1943, Charles was born in Hillsdale, Michigan to the late William J. Vicory and Florence (Carey) Vicory.
Charles is survived by his 2 children. Daughter - Elizabeth (Bill) Mayberry and son - David (Cheryl) Vicory, 3 Grandsons - Michael, Logan and Damien Vicory. As well as his special, lifelong friend, Neil Moffet.
Charles was raised in Quincy, Mi and graduated from Quincy High School in 1961. During this time his lifelong passion for racing and building cars was born, he also dabbled in learning to fly planes and building model planes. In his early 20's, he relocated to Jackson. The turmoil of the riots in the 1960's drew Charles into public service, where he started his nearly 20-year law enforcement career as a reserve police officer for the city of Jackson, (then for Jackson County, then Blackman township and finally Leoni township) while also fulfilling his passion for cars, he would spend hours in his home shop building and fixing cars.
In 1964 he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. They were married on April 4th, 1964. In 1965 they welcomed their first child, Elizabeth. Followed by a son, Charles J., Vicory in 1968, who sadly passed away at 4 days old. In 1977 they welcomed another son, David C. Vicory. In April of 1990 his wife of 26 yrs passed away. Charles and Shirley resided on Gillette's Lake in Leoni township, where they built their lakeside home, raised their kids and lived on the lake, throughout their lives.
After leaving the police department, Charles was a dedicated employee of Art Moehn, as a Frame Technician for well over 20 years. Retired in 2005, became bored with retirement and went back to work again at Art Moehn in 2007 as a new Car Delivery employee. While delivering cars, Charles was able to see a lot of the Midwest. During his retirement years, he fueled new passions in boating and learning to Sail on Gillette's Lake. Charles was a member of St. Jacobs Church, Grass Lake, MI.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jack J. Vicory, his wife Shirley, his son, Charles.
Per Charles' wishes, there will be no service. A private family memorial will take place at a later time.
