Charles Paul "Charlie" Wagner, 84, of Ft. Mitchell, died April 5th at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Edgewood surrounded by loved ones.
Charles was born July 1, 1939 in Covington to Sylvester Joseph and Hilda Frances (Browning) Wagner. He graduated from Covington Latin High School in 1955 and received his B.A. from Villa Madonna College (now Thomas More University) in 1959 and a law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1962. While at the University of Kentucky, he met Lena Elizabeth Roark, whom he married May 1, 1965 at Mother of God Church in Covington.
He was admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1962, after which he served a number of years as the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney and worked in private practice until his retirement. He continued to assist some long-term clients, friends, and charities with legal work until his death. He enjoyed studying genealogy and was a lifelong member of the Bob White Club; he was also a member and national officer of the Browning Collectors Association, of which he was president from 2011-2019. Charles was a member of The Church of St. Agnes in Fort Wright, where he served as an usher for many years. He also donated his time to charity with his dear friend Loretta Hall; he spent time over Thanksgiving weekends at the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Processing Center and volunteered at Care Net, Pregnancy Services of Northern Kentucky, where he taught parenting and fatherhood classes beginning in 2016.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Lena, his son Charles Paul, his parents, and his brother James. He is survived by his brother John, and his children Elizabeth Belikov of Elsmere, KY, Trina Brown of New Staton, PA, Charlene Stinger of Elizabethtown, KY, Gretchen Wood of Houston, TX, Lieutenant Colonel Eric Wagner of Alexandria, VA, and Kurt Wagner of Rochester, WI. He was a devoted grandfather and will be missed by his thirteen grandchildren: Colton, Grayson, Paula, Garrison, Virginia, Allison, Margaret, Charles, Joseph, Lena, Thomas, Margaret Mary, and Leon.
Visitation is April 10th, Wednesday, at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright from 10:00-11:30am, followed by a funeral liturgy at Mass beginning at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, Charles' family is requesting donations to Care Net. Donations - Pregnancy Center Northern Kentucky (carenetnky.org)
