Charles Ira Wellham, 91, of Lithia Springs, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Mr. Wellham was born on March 13, 1934 in Paulding County to the late Evie Johnston Wellham and Byron Adams Wellham. He was a remarkable man, known for his exceptional love of Jesus and skills as a handyman.
Throughout his life, Charles demonstrated a strong work ethic. His hard work was evident during his time serving in the U.S. Air Force and working at Sears - where he retired from after 33 years of service. Mr. Charles was a proud and faithful Christian who was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church. He always looked forward to Monday mornings when he could go to the Douglas County Courthouse to tell people how much Jesus loved them. Charles was never one to shy away from a challenge, always rolling up his sleeves and tackling tasks head-on. His skills in repairing things showed his commitment to improving the lives of those around him.
Charles will be fondly remembered for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He took great pride in his work and found joy in the process of creation and repair. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through the memories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd Wellham, Doy Wellham, Andrew "Jack" Wellham and sister, Marvine Wellham Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Deal Wellham; children, David Wellham, Karen (David) Caldwell and Scott (Jennifer) Wellham; as well as eight grandchildren, Emily Wellham, Julia Wellham, Campbell Wellham, Bubba Caldwell, Lily Caldwell, Kati Caldwell, Karsten Wellham and Trevor Wellham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Mr. Wellham will lie in state on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Steven Greene, Rev. Terry Pearman, and Rev. Kenneth Hennesy officiating. Interment will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made towards the Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, 11491 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, Georgia 30134.
