Charles Phillip Whitehead, 91, died quietly at home after a brief illness on March 4, 2026.
Phil was born September 8, 1934 to Charles and Fern (Markham) Whitehead in Goshen.
He is survived by his brother, Jan (Gail) of Goshen; sister, Ruth West (Dan) of Goshen; son, Brad (Jewel) Whitehead of North Myrtle Beach; daughter-in-law, Kimberly of Goshen; and grandsons Tyler and Alex.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Marlene (Bare); and son, David James Whitehead.
Phil joined the Army at age 17 and drove tanks in the Korean War, earning two bronze stars. After the war, he returned to Goshen, married Marlene and had two sons. In 1967, the family moved to North Carolina where he managed a facility for Goshen Rubber Company. 12 years later, he and Marlene moved back to Goshen for good. He eventually retired from Goshen Rubber after more than 50 years of service.
Phil enjoyed camping and his many model trains. He was a loyal member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the VFW, volunteering many years on the honor guard.
A visitation will take place Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 9:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A graveside service with military honors will take place at Violett Cemetery.
