Martha Catherine (Spidel) Sample Yoder, 100, of Goshen died Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Waterford Crossing, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born September 26, 1925, to Fred L. Spidel and Bertha (Mick) Spidel.
A 1943 graduate of Goshen High School, Martha remained active in her Class of 1943 gatherings and reunions throughout her life, cherishing lifelong friendships.
On June 1, 1947, she married Ernest L. Sample, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1986. On May 3, 1992, she married John D. Yoder. He died May 4, 2017.
Martha is survived by her children: Barbara Dawson, Nappanee; Brenda (Dave) Brunk, Martinez, Georgia; Gregory Sample, Alva, Florida; and Joe (Connie) Sample, Goshen. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Tim (Marisa) Yoder, Goshen, Margaret Fultz, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; and Robin Yoder (Luann), Goshen.
She leaves behind eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
Martha is also survived by seven step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ernest Sample and John D. Yoder; and her sisters, Anna Jane Hoke and Mary Grace Wade.
Martha was deeply involved in her community. She worked alongside her sister Anna Jane for many years with Meals on Wheels, served as past president of the Parmore Ladies Golf League, and was past secretary of the Maplecrest Ladies Golf Association. She was employed for 20 years at Yoder’s Budget Shop.
A devoted member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren, Martha also attended St. John Methodist Church during her winters in Florida.
Beginning in 1980, Martha spent her winters in Florida, first in Fort Myers and, beginning in 1992, in Avon Park, primarily residing in Florida for eight months each year.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Martha will be remembered for her warmth, dedication to her community, and deep love for her family.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to the 12 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
