Charlie spent his youth in East St. Louis before he met and married his wife, Bern. He served in the Army National Guard and worked at Robert 'Chick' Fritz Distributing in sales and delivery. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 592. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eleanor (nee Gray) Zittel and brother Hank Zittel. Surviving are his wife Bernadette Zittel; daughter Amy (Craig) Lombardi and son Matt (Hope) Zittel; grandchildren Colin, Jake, and Jack Lombardi and Sam and Madelyn Zittel; sister Mary El Roche; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and dear neighbors.
