Charles Zittel Obituary

Charles Zittel

March 9, 1942 - June 13, 2025

Shiloh, Illinois - Charles W. Zittel, age 83, of Shiloh, IL, born March 9, 1942, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away June 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Charlie spent his youth in East St. Louis before he met and married his wife, Bern. He served in the Army National Guard and worked at Robert 'Chick' Fritz Distributing in sales and delivery. Among his favorite past-times were spending time with family, attending all the grandkids' numerous sporting events and dance recitals, fishing out in the back yard, and enjoying the family's many pets. The backyard swimming pool on Longview was a common retreat on hot days along with a cold Miller Lite. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and the St. Louis football Cardinals and listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball on the radio in the garage. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 592.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eleanor (nee Gray) Zittel; and brother, Hank Zittel.

Surviving are his wife, Bernadette Zittel; daughter, Amy (Craig) Lombardi; and son, Matt (Hope) Zittel; grandchildren, Colin, Jake, and Jack Lombardi and Sam and Madelyn Zittel; sister, Mary El Roche; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and dear neighbors.
