"When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord and he brought me into a spacious place." Psalm 118: 5
Charlie Lee Bryant Sr., age 75, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born on November 17, 1949, in Engelhard, North Carolina, to the late Robert Bryant and Annie "Blanche" Collins Bryant. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Spencer and Brenda Bryant.
Charlie graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in Hopewell, Virginia, in 1964. He was a hard-working and dedicated man who took pride in fulfilling his life's purpose through service and integrity. Charlie worked for over 20 years at Turner Bland Funeral Home in Hopewell, Virginia, followed by more than 30 years at Allied Chemicals. He later continued his career at Henrico Doctors' Hospital, where he worked for seven years before retiring.
Charlie was an exceptional man who made a lasting impression on everyone he met. One of his favorite sayings was to always "Keep It Real." He enjoyed bowling, watching westerns and crime investigation shows, and participating in AAA meetings, where he was both a faithful attendee and a supportive sponsor to others. Above all, Charlie cherished spending time with his family, who were the greatest joy of his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Rosemary Tunstall Bryant; three beloved children, Charlie Bryant (Adrienne), Christopher Bryant, and Amanda Wyche; loving sisters, Diane Phyall (Smith) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Judy Spencer (Walter) of Chesapeake, Virginia; caring brothers, Matthew Bryant (Aqualia) of Engelhard, North Carolina, and Vance "Van" Gibbs of Yonkers, New York; three uncles, Cola Bryant (Ether), Roscoe Collins, and Henderson Collins; one aunt, Florence Collins; and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Tunstall.
Charlie will also be lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren-Xavier Bryant, Raymond Bryant, Tre'Veoone Bryant, Brian Wyche Jr., Special Gray, and Brianna Wyche-and his four great-grandchildren-Tajiri Bryant, K'aura Bryant, Brian Wyche III, and Isabella Wyche.
Charlie's kindness, humor, and unwavering authenticity will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him. His legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to live on through his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Monday, November 3, 2025 at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg. Interment will be held privately.
