With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Charlie Dougherty on March 7, 2024, a devoted family man, loving father to Charles (Jill), George (Mary Carroll), Jane (Rich), and Daniel (Tristina), doting grandfather to numerous adored grandchildren (Cheryl (Jason), Katie, McLean, Julia, Sarah, Tessa, Halle (Anthony), Ian, Georgia, Annabel, Morganna, and Niall) , 2 great grandchildren Jake and Jace and a friend to many in the Philadelphia area. Charlie a Korean war veteran, served his country with honor and distinction. His life unfolded on the streets of Kensington, where he played soccer, and forged lasting friendships and discovered the essence of community. During this time, he found the love of his life, Barbara Joan, a connection that grew into a union lasting over 50 years.  Charlie’s warm and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His love of travel took him to Ireland numerous times (he was Irish through and through and loved the movie the Quiet Man), Croatia, China, Israel, and Scotland, creating cherished memories with family and friends. His love for singing Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra songs will forever make us smile and remind us to take time to waltz or jitterbug in the kitchen, enjoy a tall gin and tonic or simply pick up the phone and catch up for awhile. Charlie always made time for family and friends and this will be one of many lasting legacies.  He was truly the Legend. Rest in peace dear Charlie, your love, friendship, family will be remembered by all.  We love you Pop. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 9 to 10 AM at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox St. Phila. PA 19137. Interment to follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
