Charlotte Berst, 89, of Grand Island died Friday, December 19, 2025, at her home.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Pastor Trevon Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 Monday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences may direct to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Charlotte was born December 12, 1936, to Charles and Edna (Hopkins) Woods in Verdigre, NE. She grew up in Palmer and graduated from Palmer High School in 1955.
On September 25, 1955, Charlotte married Edward Berst in Palmer. The couple lived in Grand Island, and she worked a short time at the Ordnance Plant. When K-Mart opened Charlotte was one of the first hired employees and worked there for 36 years until she retired. Even after retirement she returned to K-Mart on a part-time basis.
Charlotte enjoyed painting ceramic figurines, sewing clothes and doll clothes, and reading. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Four-Square Church.
Survivors include children, Betty Ann (Ray) Wilson of Newport, NE and Rob Berst of Grand Island, NE; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Jada Williams of Thayer, KS; brother, Richard (Shirley) Woods of Hiawatha, KS; and sons-in-law, Gerald Henderson of Hastings, NE and Dave Sperling of Grand Island, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; daughters, Debra Henderson and Janice Sperling; sister, Margaret Havlicek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Donna Berst, Joann and Howard Koth, Delbert Berst, and Bill Williams.

My Dad & then my husband worked with her husband, so she was like an other part of the family since I was growing up. I also had to stop & see her when ever I was in to Kmart!
