Charlotte T. Sellinger, 98, of Elkhart Lake, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 2, 1924 to the late Robert and Esther (Koehn) Thieman of Sheboygan.
Char grew up in Sheboygan graduating from North High School. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated in 1946 with a BA in English. While in college she met the love of her life on a double date and married David E. Sellinger on June 29, 1946. Together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. One treasured trip was to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Raising four children in Sheboygan, Char was very involved in their activities. She shared her love of nature by allowing and encouraging her children to provide homes for abandoned wildlife. Typical tenants included baby raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, and a crow. The pet Schnauzer had a lot of company. Family ski trips were one of her passions, as was golfing with the ladies, playing bridge, and traveling abroad. An ardent fan, she loved watching the Badgers and Green Bay Packers play their games.
In 1987 Char fulfilled a lifelong dream of making Elkhart Lake their permanent home. In her later years she enjoyed long walks with her husband through the Village and writing short stories about her life experiences. Char was a loyal 30-year member of the Elkhart Lake Study Club. Char will be remembered for her beautiful smile and positive attitude. She always had a compliment or kind word to share. We are blessed to have a lifetime of family memories to cherish forever.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her devoted husband David, her parents, brother Bobby as an infant, brother Bill (Peggy) Thieman, and sister Joan (Richard) Thickens.
She is survived by her children D. Scott (Terry) Sellinger, Robert (Andrea) Sellinger, Sally (Steve) Nead, and Michael (Mary) Sellinger; grandchildren, Jennifer Sellinger-Gotzmer, Steven (Elise) Sellinger, Zachary Sellinger, Christopher (Weslie) Sellinger, Tricia (Allen) Burness, Tyler (Jessica) Nead, Jordan (fiance James McGuire) Nead, Ellen (fiance Tobia Martens) Sellinger, Brigitte Sellinger, and Riley Sellinger; great-grandchildren, Gigi, Grayson, Griffin, Audrey, Connor, Brynn, Hudson, Dylan, Jake, Ella, Grace, Lily, and James.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 11:30am - 2:00pm at the Sheboygan Yacht Club, 214 Pennsylvania Ave, Sheboygan, WI 53081.
