Charlotte Slagle Obituary

Charlotte Ethel Slagle, age 93, of Chestertown, MD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Born in Chestertown, MD on December 20, 1932, she was the youngest of 11 children born to the late Alexander "Al" and Charlotte "Lottie" (Reed) Taylor. Charlotte was a graduate of Chestertown High School with the class of 1951. She began working as a Saturday girl at Fox's Department Store and later as a soda jerk at Gill Brothers. In 1950, Charlotte began her career as a telephone operator with C&P Telephone Company, retiring in 1982.

Charlotte had a deep connection to her community and enjoyed serving others. She was a member of the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Charlotte also spent her free time at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital serving as a TV clerk. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Nearly New Shoppe where she eventually became a supervisor, retiring in 2020. Deep in her faith, Charlotte was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing in the Duckpin Bowling League. Charlotte had an extensive collection of cookbooks, and especially appreciated books from local organizations.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Lawrence Edward Slagle, Sr.; siblings, Charles "Buck" Taylor, George "Buddy" Taylor, Martha Anderson, Olin "Zeke" Taylor, Howard "Nubby" Taylor, Eben "Perks" Taylor, Eunice Frank, Frances "Renee" Coxon, Sarah Taylor, and Frank "Frankie" Taylor. She is survived by her children, Gay Slagle, Julie Slagle, and Lawrence Edward "Larry" Slagle, Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her special Chihuahua, Daisy.

A graveside service will begin at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD. A celebration of life will begin at 2:30 pm, following the service, at Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, 211 Maple Avenue, Chestertown, MD.
